Home fires can be devastating. Following some basic and simple fire prevention tips and being aware of some common house fire causes can help reduce the risk of a fire in your home.
1) Be sure to install smoke alarms on all levels of your home or building structure. Smoke alarms should be tested monthly and if not working should have the batteries changed.
2) One of the most common areas fires begin in a home is in the kitchen. It is important to be sure you do not leave anything flammable near or on your stove. Do not rest any cookbooks or towels on top of your stove.
3) Another common cause of a house fire is caused by home space heaters and baseboard heaters. It is important to never leave items too close while the heaters are running. Always follow the instructions for each heating device.
4) Candles should never be left unattended. Keep all matches and lighters away for children's reach.
5) Do not overload extension cords and power strips
6) You and your family should make and practice a fire escape plan. Clear all clutter that can become an obstacle to escape.
